01. Why the Petkit Pura Max screen went blank
The main control board is still running — that's why the app, cleaning cycles, and weight tracking work fine. The display fails on its own because the dedicated screen circuit either got wet or its voltage regulator gave out. There are two distinct causes.
Moisture and liquid infiltration
Urine tracking or liquid spray used during deep cleaning seeps behind the display bezel. The moisture creates micro-corrosion on the ribbon cable contacts that connect the OLED screen to its sub-board, breaking the signal.
Power delivery component failure
The integrated circuit that regulates voltage to the display panel degrades prematurely under continuous standby operation. When it fails, it cuts power to the OLED pixels while leaving the microcontroller fully active.

02. How to fix it — step by step

03. If it still won't turn on: replacement options
If drying the unit fails to restore the display, the OLED screen panel or its sub-board has suffered permanent hardware failure. A permanent internal short requires installing a new display sub-board module — this swap restores power lines directly to the OLED matrix. If the repair cost is too high, sourcing a new unit is the most reliable path forward.

Flickering before a blackout points to a loose or partially oxidized internal ribbon cable connection — not a dead component. This is repairable without replacing the board. You'll need to open the outer housing panel to access the display sub-assembly, carefully unlatch the ZIF connector, clean the gold pins with 99% isopropyl alcohol, and reseat the cable firmly into its slot.
Use 99% IPA only — lower concentrations leave water residue that worsens corrosion. Work with the unit unplugged and allow the connector to dry fully before reassembly.
