💡 Quick Resolution Summary (BLUF)
  1. Trapped Air Bubbles: The cordless water pump can trap tiny air pockets inside its impeller chamber after refilling. Simply removing the pump and shaking it gently under water releases the bubbles.
  2. Limescale & Debris Clog: Dissolved calcium in tap water builds up on the pump's magnetic rotor. Disassembling the pump cover and soaking the rotor in white vinegar or citric acid for 30 minutes dissolves the scale.
  3. Dirty Contact Pins: The contacts on the control module or base can get coated in biofilm or mineral residue. Clean them with a dry microfiber cloth to restore a clean electrical connection.
  4. If the error persists: A failed pump or command module may require replacement. See Section 03 for details.
Quick reference — PETKIT Eversweet Max lack of water error The PETKIT® Eversweet Max cordless smart pet water fountain can trigger a false "Lack of Water" warning — indicated by a flashing red LED or an app error — when the tank is full. This is primarily caused by trapped air bubbles in the wireless pump's impeller chamber or mineral limescale buildup that prevents the magnetic rotor from spinning. To resolve the issue, unplug the unit, lift the main lid, and remove the wireless pump. Submerge the pump in water and shake it gently to clear any air pockets. If it has been in use for a while, disassemble the pump's front cover and rotor cap, extract the magnetic impeller, and soak these parts in a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and warm water for 30 minutes to descale. Wipe the metal contacts on the command module with a dry microfiber cloth to clean any biofilm. Reassemble the pump, refill the reservoir with fresh tap water (never distilled), and restart the unit. If the warning persists, the wireless pump assembly may need replacement.

Why the fountain displays A false water shortage warning

The PETKIT Eversweet Max uses a cordless wireless pump that receives induction power from the base. A false "Lack of Water" warning occurs when the pump cannot draw water or when the command module fails to read water presence due to sensor or electrical contact issues.

Vulnerability 01

Trapped Air Bubbles in the Pump Cavity

When refilling the reservoir or reassembling the fountain, small pockets of air can get trapped inside the cordless pump's impeller chamber. This air lock prevents water from flooding the pump, causing the motor to spin dry or stall. The system detects the lack of water resistance and triggers the flashing red low-water warning.

Vulnerability 02

Limescale Buildup on the Magnetic Impeller

Tap water contains dissolved minerals that crystallize over time due to pump motor heat. This limescale creates friction inside the pump's rotor well, eventually seizing the magnetic impeller. Since the motor cannot rotate, the system registers a malfunction and assumes the tank is empty.

In most cases, the steps below fix this in under 10 minutes.

How to fix it — step-by-step

Work through each step in order. Do not skip the pump descaling step if your water is hard — mineral buildup is the most common cause of false sensor readings.

Part A — Wireless pump cleaning & air lock clearance

Keep Your PETKIT Eversweet Max Running Smoothly

Replacing the filter cartridge every 30 days keeps the water clean, prevents mineral buildup, and protects the wireless pump.

Part B — Command module & contact check

Still failing after completing all steps? A component may need replacing — see the options below.

If the error persists: replacement options

If descaling the pump and cleaning the contact pins does not clear the false warning, the internal inductive coils or the command module control chip may be damaged. Replacing the wireless pump or the command module will restore the induction power field and accurate water shortage detection.

Connectivity & app settings: advanced fix

> Important: The PETKIT Eversweet Max (Cordless) connects to the PETKIT app exclusively via Bluetooth. It does not have its own Wi-Fi radio. Remote monitoring from outside your home is only possible through interconnection with a PETKIT master device (a PETKIT self-cleaning litter box or a Wi-Fi-enabled PETKIT smart feeder) located within 8 meters of the fountain. If you do not have a compatible PETKIT master device, the fountain can only be controlled via Bluetooth when your phone is in proximity.

Fountain goes offline or fails app binding

The Eversweet Max pairs directly to your smartphone via Bluetooth. If the app fails to connect, ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone and that you are within a few meters of the fountain. Open the PETKIT app, tap "+" to add the device, and follow the on-screen binding prompts.

If the device was previously bound and is no longer responding, try force-closing and reopening the PETKIT app, then reconnect via Bluetooth. For a full re-binding, delete the device from the app and re-add it using the "+" button while standing close to the fountain.

For remote access from outside the home, the fountain must be within 8 meters of a compatible PETKIT master device (PETKIT self-cleaning litter box series or Wi-Fi-enabled PETKIT smart feeder series). Note that the PETKIT Fresh Element (model P512) and Fresh Element Mini (model P530) are not compatible master devices.

Battery mode vs plug-in power limits

In battery mode (cordless), the fountain dispenses water for 25 seconds per hour by default to preserve battery life. Switching water dispensing modes (continuous vs. intermittent) is not available in battery mode — plug the device in to change modes via the app.

The rated input for the Eversweet Max is 5V⎓1A. Use only the original PETKIT USB power cable or a compatible 5V 1A USB adapter. Low-quality or incorrect adapters can cause the induction field to sag, potentially triggering false empty errors. The adapter is not included in the box.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my PETKIT Eversweet Max showing a flashing red light when it is full?

During normal operation, a flashing red light on the water shortage indicator means the pump cannot draw water even though the tank appears full. The most common causes are trapped air bubbles in the cordless pump chamber or limescale buildup locking the magnetic rotor. Remove the pump, submerge it in water, and shake it gently to clear air bubbles. If the issue persists after refilling, descale the impeller following the steps in Section 02. Note: a solid red light on both indicators simultaneously is not a fault — it simply means the control module is not seated in the base.

Can I use distilled water in my PETKIT water fountain?

PETKIT advises against using distilled or reverse-osmosis (RO) water. The Eversweet Max is designed for tap water or spring water. Use regular tap water for proper operation.

How do I reset the filter reminder on the PETKIT Eversweet Max?

After replacing the filter cartridge, open the PETKIT app and reset the filter life counter from the device settings page. Your phone must be within Bluetooth range of the fountain to synchronize the reset command. The flashing red filter indicator will turn off once the reset is confirmed.

Does the PETKIT Eversweet Max connect to Wi-Fi?

No. The Eversweet Max (Cordless) connects to the PETKIT app exclusively via Bluetooth. It does not have an onboard Wi-Fi radio. Remote access from outside the home requires a compatible PETKIT master device (PETKIT litter box or Wi-Fi feeder) within 8 meters of the fountain.
